Preparation for Spinning: Fiber was separated into lengths
suitable for spinning. No other preparation was necessary.
Reason for Choice of this Sample: Indian Muga has a darker
color (which I love) and coarser texture than most other tussah silks
available. It was a nice change of pace.
Type of Spinning: short forward draw
Equipment Used: bobbin flyer wheel
Direction of Twist: Z
Number of Plies: singles
Weight of Skein:
Finishing: Yarn
was wound onto a skeiner and steamed to set the twist. Yarn was
partially dried on the skeiner and hung to finish drying.
Length of yarn:
Suggested Uses: Weft for woven fabric--particularly a jacket
fabric. Could also be used for knitting or crochet (which would be
my choice). The darker color of fiber would create interesting
color variations if over-dyed.
