Type: commercial "cinnamon" tussah sliver and bombyx mulberry
noil
Preparation for Spinning: Cinnamon tussah sliver and bombyx
noil were roughly blended together using hand cards. Rolags were
formed for spinning.
Reason for Choice of this Sample: The cinnamon tussah had a
dry, jerky draft. Blending with the bombyx noil added texture,
color interest and made an easier drafting fiber.
Type of Spinning: short forward draw
Equipment Used: hand cards, bobbin flyer wheel
Direction of Twist: Z
Number of Plies: singles
Weight of Skein:
Finishing: Yarn
was wound onto a pvc bobbin and boiled in detergent and water for 30
minutes to remove residual sericin (which was considerable). Yarn
was rinsed, skeined, and hung to
dry.
Length of yarn:
Suggested Uses: Personally, I would add additional twist to
this yarn and ply it to make a yarn more suitable for knitting.
This would be a beautiful summer cardigan. I can speculate that as
singles it could be used as textured weft for a jacket or skirt fabric.
However, I question it's ability to endure surface abrasion.
