Skein 40

Spinner's choice, demonstrating an understanding of plying

Fiber:  wool, commercial yarn
Type:  Commercial dyed wool top, commercial yarn thrums
Preparation for Spinning:  Wool top was torn into pieces and drumcarded into multi-color batts.  Batts were torn into strips for spinning.  Thrums were torn off old yarn sample cards and no further preparation was necessary.
Reason for Choice of this Sample:  Since extreme novelty yarns are very popular right now, I thought it only appropriate to include one.  The yarn is soft but visually shocking and is probably the least "hard-wearing" yarn I've ever spun.
Type of Spinning:  supported long draw
Equipment Used:  drumcarder, bobbin flyer wheel (louet s-90)
Direction of Twist:  singles Z, plied S, Z
Number of Plies:  4
Weight of Skein:
Finishing:  Yarn was wound onto a skeiner, and washed aggressively to full the yarn and help hold the thrums in place.    Hung to dry.
Length of yarn:
Suggested Uses:  This yarn is NOT suited to hard wearing applications.  Basically it's only purpose in life is a knit scarf or perhaps as an accent yarn in a ruana.   You see, spinning doesn't always have to have a purpose; it can just be.
